When I had a blog, I liked to do a weekly-ish "currently" list, which is similar but with a slightly different vibe. I've never done it with this framing, but it was fun to think about.
And yes, calling is getting easier. And it's been so simple and friendly each time, there's no reason to worry, I just hate the phone :)
Interesting! I was pulled into this one from almost the first chapter. Although, I guess it does pick up once Dia is on her way to the Darkly internship, so maybe give it a little bit longer next time?
i honestly have been going back to most DNF's for a while (unless I dropped it for specific reasons) bc the state of the world just has me in constant moods which affects everything.
I need the Lazy Genius Podcast!! Thank you for the rec! I'm also very intrigued by Get the Picture...the art world feels so out of reach for the regular person. I'm curious as to the conclusions she reaches, if any. Thank you!
My main takeaway from Get the Picture was that appreciating art mostly takes time, attention, and curiosity. And that a lot of the mystique around it from people, but you don't have to buy into all of that to just appreciate art if you're willing to give it time. I thought it was a really interesting book!
I haven’t read Darkly, but I read Night Film in 2022 and I still think about it even today. It reminds me of the idea Scorsese said he was trying for in Taxi Driver where you leave the movie theater and are shocked that the sun is shining because you were so immersed in the picture. Like that.
I want to check out Get the Picture! Thanks for the rec.
Yours is the second Saving Me list I’ve read this weekend and I love them, had no idea what was a thing.
I also have to amp myself up to call but it’s easier now than it was 6 weeks ago I guess.
Take care internet friend!

I'm going to have to give Darkly a second shot, it didn't grab me initially but maybe it was the mood I was in at the time.

i think sometimes it's just a mood thing, i also read 100+ just in this genre a year so that skews things for me lol
That makes a difference! I don't read as much YA anymore, so I don't have a good gauge of how it compares.
